London, July 21 /TASS /. The high import mission, launched by US President Donald Trump against allies in Asia, forced people to think about the reliability of agreements with Washington in the field of security. This idea is shown by the head of the diplomatic of the European Union Kai Callas.
“(Asian countries) turned to us, because we represent a reliable partner. They said that if the agreement with the United States could be destroyed unilaterally, so why should they trust security agreements to sign contracts with Washington?” She said in an interview with his financial newspaper.
Callas noted that representatives of many Asian countries in conversations with European officials called on the community not to reduce their presence in Asia and expressed their desire to “develop closer relations with EU and different European countries”.
Earlier, US officials have repeatedly stated that Europe should spend more resources to ensure security for the European continent, while the United States will fulfill additional defense obligations in Asia.
Currently, the EU has agreements on security and defense with Australia, Japan and Korea. In 2020, the European Union signed the Southeast Asian Association (ASEAN) with a cooperation agreement, including in the field of anti -terrorism, ensuring the safety of sea routes and cybersecurity.
