Moscow could have become an energy-starved region in the coming years without a new strategy. Sergei Sobyanin stated this at the international forum Russian Energy Week.
“We held meetings under the leadership of Alexander Valentinovich (Novak, Vice Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation – Ed.), received presidential instructions on this issue. And we were actively involved in the formation of the new strategy,” he noted.
According to the capital's mayor, these adjustments have become a major investment in the city's grid, energy and production complex. They involve the construction of new nuclear units, hydroelectric plants and thermal power plants that will operate for Moscow. Sobyanin calls them a giant complex that ensures reliability and future development of the capital region.
As Sobyanin noted, the Moscow region is part of the entire energy system.
“Furthermore, one of the most important and largest projects in terms of volume, however, of course, we should not sit still. We are working to ensure that the energy efficiency of the city's economy increases,” the mayor said.
Previously at the Moscow City Duma has been introduced draft law “On the budget of the city of Moscow until 2026 and the planning period of 2027 and 2028”. It assumes that capital will maintain the positive momentum of socio-economic development. The document also presents the current needs of the population and takes into account strategic plans for the development of the capital's economy, infrastructure and social sector.
