Anton Nemkin, member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, and federal coordinator of the United Russia project “Digital Russia”, commented on the blocking of Snapchat. About this report RIA Novosti.

According to Nemkin, blocking is a reasonable step and “long overdue.” As the deputy minister explained, the platform “has turned into an underground infrastructure for criminals,” so the work of messengers “creates a threat to citizens.”
“The platform chose an irresponsible path – and as a result it was outside the legal framework. Roskomnadzor made the blocking decision and it was completely justified, timely and determined by national security interests. <...> The safety of our citizens is more important than any 'convenience app' that actually becomes a threat,” he said.
Over the past two days, Roskomnadzor has blocked Snapchat, FaceTime and the game Roblox in Russia.
