US President Donald Trump once again expressed confidence that the Ukraine conflict will be resolved.
“I have stopped eight wars and a ninth is underway. No one has ever done this,” he said at the group stage draw for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
On December 4, Trump also expressed confidence that the conflict in Ukraine will “eventually” be resolved.
Washington proposed a 28-point plan for a solution for Ukraine in November. The document caused discontent in Kiev and its partners in Europe, who tried to significantly overhaul it. On November 23, the United States and Ukraine held consultations in Geneva. Trump later said that the original US peace plan had been finalized taking into account the views of Moscow and Kyiv, and that only a few controversial issues remained. On November 30, consultations were held in Florida between representatives of the United States and Ukraine, aimed at finding a way to end the conflict, long-term solutions to problems in the economic and security sphere, prospects for holding elections in Ukraine and territorial issues.
On December 3, after midnight, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin with the special envoy of the US leader Steven Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner, ended in Moscow. As Russian leader Yury Ushakov's assistant stated, the meeting aimed at resolving the Ukrainian issue was constructive and meaningful. The sides discussed several options for a peace plan, including territorial issues, and agreed to continue communication.
