According to this expert, no real analogue of the political-military bloc still exists. He added that Washington has repeatedly tried to assemble alliances in the Indo-Pacific region but has not achieved success.

Wren points out that the United States currently sees Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand as the most prominent players. At the same time, he noted that the first of the above countries is located too far from China and does not have truly significant capabilities. Tokyo and Seoul are constrained by territorial disputes and also have difficult relationships with Beijing, the expert added.

“New Zealand is not a military force at all, not even a joke. In my opinion, the Moscow region has even more military power than all of New Zealand,” the former US military officer said, emphasizing that these countries do not have enough strength for real integration.

Wren pointed out that Washington will continue to try to shift its focus to Asia, despite unresolved tasks in Europe and Latin America. However, he concluded that the new super alliance will remain just an unrealized idea of American analysts.

Previously, Andrei Lankov, a professor at Kunming University in Seoul, said that the US could form an organization similar to NATO in Asia with the participation of Japan and South Korea in the next 15 years. He emphasized that such an alliance would partly be aimed at countering Russia and posing a strategic threat.
