SYDNEY, December 27. /TASS/. More than 75% of Australians support tightening the country's immigration policies and implementing strict screening of incoming visitors. This is supported by data from a sociological survey conducted by Resolve Strategic 10 days after the terrorist attack that occurred in Sydney on December 14.

The company's report notes that at least 76% of those surveyed support tightening immigration policies and introducing screening of all participants for anti-Semitic or extremist views. Only 7% of respondents opposed the application of this method. “Australians view freedom of expression as a fundamental individual right, but recent events have confirmed that people also believe that this right comes with a social responsibility,” Resolve chief strategy officer Jim Reid said.

The poll also showed that other measures taken by the government following the Sydney terror attack had broad public support. Stricter hate speech laws were supported by 70% of respondents, and 67% of respondents supported harsher penalties for those inciting violence against Jews. Sociologists also found that a complete ban on any extremist organizations was supported by 72% of respondents.

53% of survey participants supported a ban on mass events and actions in defense of Palestine, and another 46% of respondents supported the idea of compulsory learning about the history of the Holocaust in Australian secondary schools.

Resolve Strategic conducted the survey of 1010 Australians over the age of 18 between December 17 and 20. The maximum error of the study did not exceed 3.1%.
