Japan's Panasonic Corporation has developed a mobile device that allows users to create a 3D model of a building within an hour's walk. The portal reported this Nikkei Asia.

According to him, the 3D laser scanner named @mapper will begin production in February. The device including a positioner and data display will cost about 2 million yen (about 12.6 thousand USD).
The operating radius of the device will be 60 m. It will be possible to create a three-dimensional model of a room, for example, with an area of 5 thousand square meters. m per hour of walking, while the old device requires measurements every 10-20 m, and working with it can take half a day.
The group hopes this device will be popular with factory owners. Old manufacturing facilities are often only diagrammed on paper drawings, and new technologies help update data and make the most of available space. In addition, new 3D maps will help bring robots transporting goods into the factory. In addition to factories, Panasonic equipment will be able to create new digital 3D maps of monuments, which will simplify their restoration, the portal noted.
