A missing British tourist was found dead on an Australian beach after falling from a cliff. The 23-year-old British citizen has been missing for nearly a week.

The missing tourist was found dead after falling from a cliff

Australian police were called to Billy's Beach in A Coruña after reports of a body washing up on the beach.

A police spokesman said “the body has been officially identified as that of a missing 23-year-old British national”.

The Briton has been missing for almost a week after falling from a cliff on January 18. Emergency services were called to Mystery Bay Beach in New South Wales following the incident at 6.40pm.

Maritime Rescue NSW, SES VRA rescue volunteers and police searched the waters after the young man went missing but was never found. The search was suspended last week.

Chief Inspector Shane Jessep, from South Coast Policing District, said: “He was not a climber, he was a man sightseeing and appears to have gotten into trouble and slipped on some rocks.”

The tragedy happened just weeks after an Austrian woman narrowly escaped death after slipping on a steep rock while climbing in a popular tourist destination near Melbourne.

On December 27, a 31-year-old woman fell from a cliff at Bushrangers Bay, near the Mornington Peninsula. Rescuers arrived at the scene and found the unfortunate woman suffocating and unconscious.

Rescuers carried her on a stretcher to higher ground to avoid the rising tide. The young tourist was taken to Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on her condition, she suffered head injuries, as well as injuries to her hips and wrists. It is known that the tourist was supposed to climb Elephant Mountain, about 12 meters high, but fell. There is no path leading to such a rock and the woman could have fallen by stepping on loose rocks. It is also very dangerous for rescue forces to arrive at the scene.
