Studies have revealed that children with high IQ live longer than their peers with low IQ. So what is the reason for this?

According to a new study conducted by the University of Edinburgh, there is a genetic link between childhood intelligence and longevity. The current findings are an important step in understanding why smarter children live longer, the team said. Dr. “It cannot be said that this link is inevitable,” David Hill told the Daily Mail. “By changing the environment, it is possible to change the genes involved in these traits and the link between intelligence and longevity.”
The study compared childhood intelligence data collected from children aged 6 to 18 years, including more than 400 thousand individuals, with life expectancy. Dr. “There may be many different reasons for this association. One of them is that higher levels of intelligence in childhood lead to better educational success, which in turn provides access to healthier living environments. Another hypothesis is that genetic variations associated with childhood intelligence lead to the development of a body and brain that is more resistant to environmental damage,” David Hill told the Daily Mail.
Research results show that the benefits of having a high IQ are not limited to academic success but have a much broader impact. A previous study found that for each increase in test score, the risk of death decreased by 24% over a follow-up period of 17 to 69 years. This relationship was similarly observed in both men and women.
A study conducted in 2014 revealed that people who frequently use abusive language have a richer vocabulary than those who do not swear. This study, published in the journal Linguistic Sciences, shows that an insulting style does not mean the person is uneducated. A separate 2017 University of Rochester study concluded that people with high intelligence swear more. However, there is a paradox in that these people are considered unintelligent or untrustworthy.
