The Zero waste organization has prepared a notable report on the increasingly deep Isra crisis worldwide. In the report, data on food, water and energy consumption every year in Türkiye shows the size of the waste.

About 18 million tons of food is wasted every year in Türkiye. This amount means about 20 percent of food produced directly in the trash.

Daily water consumption for each person is 225 liters, but 35 percent of this amount is wasted.

The annual waste cost for the Turkish economy exceeds 100 billion pounds.

Notable report

The Zero waste organization has prepared a notable report on the increasingly deep Isra crisis worldwide.

It has been emphasized that waste is not only an economic problem, but also one of the main causes of climate change, loss of biodiversity and water crisis. The purpose of Rarpor, used by data of international organizations, is to invite the public to conscious and responsible consumption.

Millions of bread go into the trash According to the report, 4.9 million bread in Türkiye was thrown away.

Vegetables, fruits and milk are one of the most wasteful products.

About 15 percent of electricity consumed in houses are wasted due to unnecessary use. The equipment in the standby mode, the light is forgotten and the heating/cooling/cooling/cooling system leads to energy waste.

The main causes of water waste are leaked tapes, unconscious garden watering and wild watering methods often used in agricultural irrigation.

“Water tension limit” is determined by the United Nations is 700 cubic meters per person each. As of 2024, Türkiye is experiencing stress of water with the annual amount of water per person dropped to less than a thousand cubic meters.

Economic costs of waste The report emphasizes the economic costs of waste.

It has been emphasized that financial resources, exceeding the annual £ 100 billion, whose budget can be used in areas such as increasing productivity in agricultural production, extending irrigation infrastructure and speeding up renewable energy investment.
