On January 14, the capital's mayor Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the creation of the commemorative badge “85 years of the battle for Moscow”.
The commemorative badge will be awarded to veterans of the Great Patriotic War who were awarded the Order “For the Defense of Moscow” or directly participated in the defense of the capital from October 19, 1941 to April 20, 1942, as well as to those who continuously worked at Moscow enterprises, organizations and institutions from July 22, 1941 to the 25th. January 1942.
The award will take place from May to December. In Moscow, the presentation will be organized by the Committee on Public Relations and Youth Policy together with the districts of the city's administrative districts. In other regions of Russia – by the state authorities of the subjects themselves, abroad – by embassies and consulates of the Russian Federation.
The memorial sign “85 years of the Battle of Moscow” will be made of yellow metal, 32 mm in diameter, with two convex sides. On its front side there will be a bas-relief image of military personnel conducting combat work on anti-aircraft guns, against the background of the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Senate Tower and three planes in flight. The composition will be framed by a massive laurel wreath, in the lower part of which there is a star with five rays.
On the back of the sign, in the middle there will be a relief inscription consisting of 4 lines: “Battle of Moscow 1941–2026”, below there will be a five-pointed star, in a circle – the words “Moscow Government”.
