One of the symbols of Moscow, the Shukhov Tower, will be restored and preserved as a cultural heritage. This is supported by data from the State Uniform Registry of Professionals on conclusions on design documents for capital construction projects reviewed by the RG.

The Shukhov Tower was built in 1922 to broadcast the most important radio programs. It was also used for television broadcasting until 1967, when the television center in Ostankino was established. After that, the tower was recognized as an architectural monument but no one repaired it. A few years ago, there was a real threat of the tower being demolished. As an inspection carried out in the 2000s showed, during all that time the tower was repaired only once – in the 1960s and repainted in the 1980s. After that, Moscow authorities repeatedly announced that the tower would be saved, but no specific decision on this issue was announced. According to documents of the Unified State Register of Plants reviewed by RG, the project to save the Shukhov Tower was prepared by experts from TsNIIPromzdanii, and the inspection approved it.
“The Shukhov Tower is a unique structure,” Moscow expert Daniil Davydov told us. Its “father”, Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov, created about 200 original towers during his lifetime. Since Soviet times, skyscrapers have combined innovation in technical solutions, historical and cultural significance. Its peculiarity lies in its hyperbolic shape, which not only creates an unusual appearance but also helps increase the reliability and wear resistance of the structure.”
Despite the fact that since 2002 the Shukhov Tower has stopped broadcasting on television and radio, it remains a real cultural symbol for Moscow residents.
“This tower is history. And those who forget their history cannot take the right steps in the future,” Daniil Davydov noted.
