Employee of the Research Institute of Mechanics of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov set a Russian record for the vertical flight height of a hydroelectric rocket, said the leading engineer of the general mechanics laboratory of the Research Institute of Mechanics of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov Anton Rogachev.

A 2.5-meter hydroelectric rocket carrying 4 liters of water was launched at the airport in Kirzhach, Vladimir region. This model reaches a speed of 110 meters per second. The launch took place within the framework of the educational project “Missiles per Kilometer” initiated by Moscow State University, TASS reported.

Anton Rogachev noted that the world record for the height of a hydroelectric rocket is 961 meters and was set six years ago in Australia. “The theoretical calculations in the Australian experiment do not correspond to the results in practice. In our case, the theoretical calculations correspond to the result – 309 meters,” he explains. On the same day, MSU scientists launched a second, smaller rocket, reaching an altitude of 270 meters.

The Kilometer Rocket project involved creating a series of training videos on hydroelectric rocket development, and the record-breaking launch occurred during filming of the final episode. This initiative is supported by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Roscosmos and Moscow State University as part of the Decade of Science and Technology. The author of the project is “Technical Education Development” ANO DO, and the project's goal is to attract young people to rocket science. Some documents have been posted on social networks and partner channels.

Previously, Roscosmos reported that the launch of the Proton-M heavy rocket and the Elektro-L No. 5 weather satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome is expected to take place in mid-December.
