A treasure hunter from the UK has found the largest hoard of ancient Roman coins in Welsh history. About this report “BBC”.

A treasure hunter found thousands of ancient Roman coins and slept with them for three days.

A huge treasure trove in north Wales was discovered using a metal detector by 36-year-old David Moss from Cheshire. He refused to reveal the location of the discovery so as not to attract the attention of black miners. At least 15 thousand coins were buried in two ceramic jars.

“A few minutes before I received the signal, a rainbow appeared in the sky. I couldn't believe it,” Moss said.

He reported the find to the owner of the land where he was searching, then brought the treasure home and handed it over to the authorities. However, the Englishman was so worried about the safety of the coins that he slept with them in his car for three days and then took them to Cardiff Museum. President of the South Wales Numismatic Society Anthony Halse said the find could be the largest Roman treasure trove in the region's history.

He also suggested that the coins may have belonged to one or more Roman legionaries, who decided to bury them for preservation. Currently, scientists are trying to determine exactly when the treasure was placed underground.

Previously, it was reported that a resident in Germany found a treasure trove of ancient Roman coins and hid it from the authorities for eight years. In total, about 450 ancient artifacts were discovered at this site.
