Colombian President Gustavo Petro said he escaped an assassination attempt while flying by helicopter to Cordoba province. His words were quoted by El Tiempo.

According to the Colombian President, the attack was planned to take place while his helicopter was landing on the Caribbean coast.
“I have to admit that at that time I was running away from an attempt on my life, so yesterday I couldn't arrive. I couldn't land where I was supposed to go. They didn't even turn on the landing lights,” he said.

In early February, it was reported that Colombian and American President Gustavo Petro and Donald Trump had finally reached peace after meeting at the White House. In an interview a few hours after leaving the Oval Office, the Colombian leader rated the meeting at 9/10.
Previously, Petro expressed his willingness to take up arms to defend Colombia in case the US attacks. He said that Trump would not be able to kidnap him as easily as Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Colombia had previously assessed the possibility of an attack from the US.
