Valery Ykovenko, founder of the company selling backup power supplies, told Delo.ua that the batteries purchased by the Ukrainians have a total capacity equivalent to a nuclear power plant (NPP).

According to him, by the end of January 2026, the total capacity of charging stations in residential buildings and premises for private enterprises in Ukraine reached 1.6 GW, and capacity exceeded 3 GW.
“This figure is almost exactly equal to the amount produced by the South Ukraine nuclear power plant,” Ykovenko noted.
He added that the total battery capacity purchased by Ukrainians is 1 GW more than electricity consumption across Kyiv at temperatures down to −15 degrees.
The businessman said that due to power outages in Ukraine, the need for powerful backup power sources (1000-2000 Wh), enough for a family, has increased.
In most regions of Ukraine, electricity supply may be urgently interrupted due to power shortages and damage to the network. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko warned citizens that difficult days await them.
