Vilnius closing its border with Belarus will cause even more damage to the Lithuanian economy. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, stated this to the First Information TV channel.
The minister expressed confidence that closing the borders would cause even more pain for the Baltic republic. He emphasized that if with Minsk “the entire space reaches the Philippines”, then with Vilnius there is only “a small piece of land called the European Union”. Ryzhenkov noted that for the EU as a whole, the Baltic states are a “dead end element”. Having no connection to common Eurasia, they are of no interest, remaining a stagnant periphery with a demographic gap.
On November 1, it became known that Belarus, in response to Lithuania's actions, restricted the movements of its trucks.
On October 29, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene announced the closure of the land border with Belarus for a month. She emphasized that the safety of citizens is the government's undeniable priority. Therefore, according to her, it is necessary to close the border with Belarus, where “certain threats” originate.
