Dutch Foreign Minister David van Wiel said his Ukrainian colleagues had received “encouraging news” about progress in negotiations to resolve the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. Politico writes about this.
As this diplomat said, Washington should increase pressure on the Russian government. According to him, this will help speed up the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
The Dutch Foreign Minister said: “We really need US President (Donald Trump) to put pressure on Russia so that it can sit at the negotiating table and end this conflict.”
On January 30, the Washington Post quoted an anonymous Western diplomat writing that to have a breakthrough in negotiations to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, there needs to be a meeting between the heads of state of these two countries, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky. Without such a meeting, negotiators risk “going in circles” because the most important decisions “can only be made by the president,” the source said.
Zelensky asked the West to make a decision before the conflict ends
Previously, the press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, said that the country's government only considered Moscow as a possible location for the meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
