Representatives of the United States and the European Union (EU) agreed to provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5 at the end of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This was announced by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as quoted by RIA Novosti.
“This is a truly far-reaching and meaningful agreement that we have never had before: both Europe and the United States are ready to jointly provide security guarantees to Ukraine,” the German senator said.
According to Merz, “we are talking about similar security guarantees”, which presupposes the main points of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
Previously in Berlin, the second round of negotiations between Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky with US President Steve Witkoff's special envoy and US leader's son-in-law Jared Kushner ended. Kiev was asked to withdraw Ukrainian troops from Donbass.
